The Time is Now! : Citizenship for Essential Workers & Families

For decades, VOCES and the immigrant rights movement have been fighting for permanent protections and citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in our country. The March to Victory - Relay Across America: Wisconsin Presente! tour will bring together immigrants and allies to demand the Biden administration and Congress deliver on promises made and provide the 11 million a roadmap to citizenship and bold COVID-19 recovery.

The VDLF Essential Workers Rights Network and Voces de la Frontera Action, in partnership with the national We Are Home campaign, is hosting the Wisconsin portion of the caravan from April 11 to May 1 to demand that Wisconsin’s members of Congress and the Biden administration: Stop Deportations, Provide COVID Recovery for All, and Provide Citizenship for all.

See our calendar of dates and locations below, plus links to Facebook events. Join us and help us spread the word!

We’re counting on your support! Our grassroots organizing has created the conditions to win this massive legalization victory, but that success depends on us and whether or not we put fear behind us, and choose to move forward fighting with dignity and pride. Success is almost within reach.

Please help us organize these upcoming events and build for our statewide march and rally in Wisconsin by downloading the event flyers, printing them and putting them up in your communities, or sharing them online.

Have questions on any of the events? Call Mario Ramirez at 414-828-2692.

What is the VDLFA Freedom Together Campaign?

In the wake of a historic turnout of Latinx and people of color voters in Wisconsin and in key swing states, Voces de la Frontera Action joins the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) network and immigrant advocacy organizations across the country in launching our “Freedom Together” campaign to call on President Elect Biden to follow through on his promises to Black and Brown voters to build a United States that achieves humane solutions to immigrant and racial injustice, that have only gotten worse in the last four years.

Voces de la Frontera Action worked tirelessly for over a year and a half to organize the Latinx, mulitracial and youth vote in Wisconsin to flip the state blue. In Wisconsin, there was historic  Latinx voter turnout statewide of  74% compared to around 50% in the last two presidential elections -- and nearly 77% of Wisconsin’s 2020 Latinx vote went to Joe Biden, per the American Election Eve Poll.

Latinx voters were not just voting to reject Trump’s hate mongering and incompetence but voting with hope to realize the implementation of the Biden/Harris platform on immigration and pandemic relief in the first 100 days of the Biden Presidency through executive orders and through the US Congress. Some of our strongest “voceros” have been Dreamers or undocumented parents and while they cannot vote themselves, they have been powerful organizers with their families, friends, co-workers, congregational members and neighbors, by raising awareness of the importance of their vote at the ballot box for our collective future and well-being. Now that we won the election, the momentum will continue to build to make those election promises a reality.

You can read our press releases on this campaign and keep up with our media coverage here, in the press room.

What can Biden do?

Reunite families separated under the Obama and Trump administrations

  • Restore Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA).  DAPA temporarily protects the immigrant parents of U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents from the threat of deportation.

  • Restore Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 400,000 people facing deportation because of Trump’s repeal of TPS. TPS provides protected status for those fleeing armed conflict, environmental disaster or other extreme circumstances.

  • Restore asylum by increasing the number of asylum seekers to the US that were dramatically cut by Trump, and remove requirements that force asylum seekers to go to other countries for processing their case to the U.S., often putting them at greater risk.

  • End the Muslim Ban.

  • Abolish programs, such as 287G, that encourage collaboration between ICE and local law enforcement. These programs promote racial profiling, undermine public safety, and separate families.

  • End government contracts with private prisons and detention centers.

What can Congress do?

  • Pass an immigrant-inclusive pandemic relief bill that upholds immigrant labor rights.

  • Pass an immigration bill that establishes a legal pathway to citizenship for all current and future immigrants.

  • Take down barriers to U.S. citizenship such as increased fees and more difficult tests.

  • Abolish private prisons and detention centers.

  • Reject any additional funding to ICE and CBP in any appropriations for DHS, whether that is with an omnibus bill or a continuing resolution. #Not1Dollar

  • Pass an overhaul of the criminal justice system that reimagines a new system focused on harm reduction, mental health treatment, education, and the protection of Black and Brown lives.

  • Sponsor the FIRM Actions’ Roadmap to Unity and Freedom
